NOTICE TO PUBLIC AND PRESS

The Granville County Board of Education will meet in Regular Session on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Board of Education Administrative Offices, 101 Delacroix Street, Oxford, North Carolina, North Carolina. The Board will meet in Closed Session for Personnel/Attorney Client Privilege in accordance with N.C. General Statute 143.318.11 (a)(6), 143-318.11 (a)(3), 143.318.11 (a)(5) and Section 115C-321 on March 5, 2018 and March 15, 2018. The next scheduled Board work session for the Board of Education will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018.

High Wind Warning Today (March 2) until 10pm

Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren Counties are under a high wind warning until 10 p.m.

Speaking specifically for Vance County, the Henderson-Vance County director of emergency operations, Brian Short said, “Attached (above) is today’s brief from the National Weather Service. As you can see, we are in a high wind warning until 10:00 PM with wind gusts in excess of 50 mph expected in our area.”

…HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM EST THIS EVENING…

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a High Wind Warning, which is in effect until 10 PM EST this evening.

* WINDS…Northwest 15 to 25 mph with frequent gusts 35 to 45 mph. Isolated wind gusts 50 to 60 mph are possible.

* TIMING…The strongest wind gusts are expected from mid morning through late afternoon across the northern Piedmont, and through early evening across the northern coastal plain.

* IMPACTS…Strong winds of this magnitude will blow down large tree limbs, shallow rooted or diseased trees, and power lines.
Numerous power outages are expected.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage. Expect numerous power outages due to downed trees and power lines. Operators of high profile vehicles will encounter periods of driving difficulty.

Travel Back To The Days Of Motown With Masters Of Soul
Motown Revue to perform at McGregor Hall on Saturday, March 3

The Masters of Soul will showcase some of the greatest hits of the 1960s and 1970s as Motown comes to Henderson during a must-experience concert at McGregor Hall Performing Arts Center this Saturday, March 3.

The Masters of Soul is a 10-person performing group based in Virginia Beach, Va. Their Motown Revue is a celebration of the legendary songs and performers that defined Motown and Soul music. The show will feature stylishly costumed, fully choreographed performances of both male and female groups backed by a live band. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the concert starts at 8 p.m.

“For many, Masters of Soul is the ultimate stroll down memory lane,” explained said Mark Hopper, vice president of the McGregor Hall Board of Directors. “For younger generations, the show offers an opportunity to experience an era in our country’s history that produced many of the greatest music acts ever recorded.”

Masters of Soul will perform songs from Gladys Knight and The Pips, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Barry White, Sam and Dave, and James Brown, among others.

The group consists of three lead male vocalists and three lead female vocalists backed by a four-piece band of seasoned musicians who’ve been touring together for decades. Masters of Soul has performed to numerous sold-out audiences and garnered rave reviews across the country.

Tickets are on sale for $30 or $25 plus sales tax and can be purchased directly at the McGregor Hall Box office, which is open Monday through Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 201 Breckenridge Street in downtown Henderson or by phone at (252) 598-0662. Oxford Prep Softball Coach Tommy Anstead emailed WIZS News and said, “The Griffins defeated Falls Lake yesterday 6 – 2. It was a well played game by both teams. Jordan Dunn pitched a great game and had an in the park home run. All 9 batters hit the ball yesterday.”

Oxford Prep Women’s Soccer Coach Robert Breedlove indicated by email that Granville Central High School defeated Oxford Prep 2-0 at Granville Athletic Park.
