Break & Entering & Larceny Case:

On December 26, 2015, at approximately 6:58 A.M., Henderson Police Officers were conducting a business check at Auto Mart 133 Raleigh Road. Officers found a window broken out of a 2003 Chrysler Town and County Van. Officers found the battery missing. Auto Mart has had several batteries stolen from vehicles. Arson Case

On December 27, 2015, at approximately 3:37 A.M., officers responded to 817 South Chestnut, in reference to an Arson of two vehicles. Upon arrival, officers talked to Mr. Clarence Dale who stated that someone had set fire to a Gray Jaguar/ S type and a Gray Mercedes Benz/S550 while parked in the yard. Armed Robbery Case

On December 26, 2015, at approximately 8:18 P.M., Vance County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to 211 Bowman Lane Henderson, NC in reference to an Armed Robbery. Upon arrival deputies talked to Jarod Mareno and Timel Jefferson who stated that they were sobered at gun point on East Spain Middleburg Road. Suspect was a White Male armed with a rifle. Subject took money and personal property. Armed Robbery Case

On December 26, 2015, at approximately 8:18 P.M., Vance County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Cruizers Store 6325 US 1 Hwy North Middleburg, NC in reference to an Armed Robbery. Upon arrival deputies talked to store clerk Shaytanna Williams who stated that a black male came up to her and demanded the money. Suspect was armed with a shotgun. Suspect left the Store before Deputies arrived. VGCC to host Martin Luther King Holiday Celebration on Jan. 20

Vance-Granville Community College will hold a special program celebrating the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. in the Civic Center on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County. The celebration is free and open to the public.

The theme of this year’s event is “The Courage to Dream, The Determination to Achieve.” The program will include inspirational music presented by a choir of VGCC faculty and staff, as well as remarks by guest speaker Kanika Turrentine, founder and CEO of the Henderson-based non-profit organization, Infinite Possibilities, Inc. Through her organization, Turrentine has developed and implemented numerous programs and outreach events for targeted groups such as single mothers, at-risk youth, the homeless, and victims of domestic and sexual violence. The Henderson native and former public school teacher graduated from Elizabeth City State University with a Bachelor’s in Business Management and from Strayer University with a Master’s in Public Administration.

Also participating in the program will be officers of the VGCC Student Government Association.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to a local charitable organization. All attendees who donate a food item will be eligible to win a door prize.

In case of inclement weather, the event is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m.

Henderson Men Arrested on Federal Charges

On Wednesday, December 23, 2015, members of the Henderson Police Department arrested Cadarius Rhasda Caldwell on federal firearms related charges. He has been indicted on one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. Caldwell was placed in the Vance County Jail without privilege of bond pending transfer of custody to the United States Marshall Service.cada (HPD photo)

On Thursday, December 31, 2015, Saquan Javar Alexander surrendered himself to authorities in Raleigh in regards to the same matter. Alexander was also indicted on one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. He remains in the custody of the United States Marshall Service.saquan (HPD photo)

Charges in this matter arose after Alexander and Caldwell were found in possession of a firearm and ammunition after a traffic stop in Oxford on April 16, 2015. The investigation into this matter was conducted by the Oxford Police Department, Henderson Police Department Special Operations Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. These are the latest arrests as the Henderson Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives continue to investigate violent crime in the Henderson and Vance County area.

VCS High School Exams

First semester exams will be administered to students at Northern Vance, Southern Vance and Western Vance high schools January 11-15.

During the administration of the high school exams, elementary and middle schools will operate on a normal schedule.

Exams at Early College High School for the first semester were given December 14-18, prior to the Christmas break.

In an email to members, Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce President John Barnes provides details of the upcoming banquet.

Snow Flurries Possible!?!

According to today’s National Weather Service Weather Impact Weather Briefing, as supplied to WIZS by Brian Short, Director of Emergency Operations for Henderson and Vance County, a few low-impact snow flurries are possible today.

The report states, “As cold air pours in across central NC, a few low-impact snow flurries or maybe a brief snow shower will be possible between 2 P.M. and 7 P.M. today, mainly from Roxboro to Sanford east toward the coastal plain (including the Triangle).”

Bright, sunny skies this morning have given way to a more gray, overcast day shortly before 1 P.M.

The report also states, “(The) main weather story through mid-week will be the cold! Get ready for lows in the lower 20s!”
