High Wind Warning Today (March 2) until 10pm

Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren Counties are under a high wind warning until 10 p.m.

Speaking specifically for Vance County, the Henderson-Vance County director of emergency operations, Brian Short said, “Attached (above) is today’s brief from the National Weather Service. As you can see, we are in a high wind warning until 10:00 PM with wind gusts in excess of 50 mph expected in our area.”

…HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM EST THIS EVENING…

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a High Wind Warning, which is in effect until 10 PM EST this evening.

* WINDS…Northwest 15 to 25 mph with frequent gusts 35 to 45 mph. Isolated wind gusts 50 to 60 mph are possible.

* TIMING…The strongest wind gusts are expected from mid morning through late afternoon across the northern Piedmont, and through early evening across the northern coastal plain.

* IMPACTS…Strong winds of this magnitude will blow down large tree limbs, shallow rooted or diseased trees, and power lines.
Numerous power outages are expected.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage. Expect numerous power outages due to downed trees and power lines. Operators of high profile vehicles will encounter periods of driving difficulty.
